Haunted by Memories and Finding Growth
Growth
By Alexander Moller
I used to think we’re haunted by ghosts.
But it is not ghosts that haunt us;
it’s our memories.
Memories of mistakes we have once committed,
memories of people we have lost—
either through life’s impending conclusion
or our reckless actions.
And how do we banish these haunting visions?
How do we come to terms with them?
We don’t do it through an exorcist,
nor can we run away from them.
We need to understand them,
understand the reality.
And from that,
we learn to grow,
we grow to understand,
we thrive in unexpected places,
and inevitably, we welcome new layers of self,
rediscovering purpose in unexpected places.
Compassion for the past,
gratitude for the present,
and a quiet hope for the future.
To new beginnings.
